Pokemon Distorted Platinum is a ROM hack that focuses more on difficulty than anything else. All gym leaders have a full team of six. Once you have beaten the elite four your team will be around level 73. All Pokemon (except for legendaries) should be obtainable before the elite four making it possible to create any team you wish. There have been changes to certain Pokemon types and abilities. Important characters will sometimes challenge the player to a double battle rather than single battles. Level curve is not that harsh for the first three gyms

- Starters have their hidden abillity aside from abilities that did not exist in gen 5
- The piplup line has Swift swim as their second abillity
- The Budew line's abillity 1 is now adaptability but Roserade's special attack gets nerfed to balance it
- The Elekid line now has a speed boost
- Gyarados is now part dragon
- Ampharos is now part dragon
- Masquerain is now part water
- Volbeat and illumese now are part electric type
- The psyduck line now are part Psychic types
- Luxray is now part Dark
- Mismagius is now part Psychic
- Purugly is now part Dark
- Tangrowth is now part poison
- Beldum's line has a much higher catch rate
